Search-and-Secure

Search-and-Secure is a procedure that is required before you are permitted to close the hutch door and open the X-ray shutter to allow beam into the hutch. It is to be performed by only one person. All others are to leave the hutch before starting the procedure.

Each experimental hutch is equipped with 2 search boxes. When the hutch is ready to be searched and secured, the amber light on the first box will be blinking (*). Proceed to the first search box and visually scan the area to ensure no one is present in the hutch. Then press the green button. Continue scanning the area as you proceed to the second search box, and press the green button. When you have verified that no one is present, you may exit the hutch, and press the green "Close" button on the door control panel just outside the hutch. Continue holding the button until the first light turns green (this indicates that the door is in the fully-closed position), then release. The door will then lock in 10-15 seconds, and the second light will turn green. The experimental hutch is now searched and secured, and the shutter can be opened.

(*) If the amber light is not blinking, check to ensure that all the emergency beam stops are pulled out. If they are, and the light is not blinking, seek assistance from a member of the Spectroscopy Group staff or a Floor Coordinator.
