Sector 20 maintains laboratory space for chemical handling and powder sample preparation for XAFS measurements. Users from around the APS, not just sector 20, wishing to prepare samples for measurement are welcome to use this XAFS sample preparation facility.

For safety reasons - for awareness and to maintain control of hazards - users of the Prep. Lab. are required to submit an ESAF. For users already at sector 20, access is automatic with the ESAF submitted for running at sector 20. Users from other sectors must submit a non-Xray type ESAF (available in selection of ESAF type on first page of ESAF submission form) so that staff at sector 20 can evaluate the hazards and appropriateness of using the XAFS Prep. Lab.
