Search-and-Secure

Search-and-Secure is the procedure required before you are permitted to close the hutch door, and open the X-ray shutter, allowing beam into the hutch. It is to be performed by only one person. All others are to leave the hutch before beginning the procedure.

Each experimental hutch at sector-20 is equipped with 2 search boxes. When the hutch is ready to be searched and secured, the amber light on the first box will be blinking (if it's not, check to ensure that all the emergency beam stops are pulled out). Proceed to the first box, scan the area to ensure no one is present in the hutch, and press the green button. Then proceed to the second box, scanning the area, and press the second button. When verified that no one is present, you may exit the hutch, and press the green "Close" button on the outside door control. Hold the button in until the first light turns green indicating the door is in the fully-closed position, then release. In 10-15 seconds, the door will lock, and the second light will turn green. The shutter can then be opened.
